Share the Dignity is a national charity working to ensure everyone can manage their period with dignity. Founded in 2015, Share the Dignity works to advance menstrual equity across Australia by providing access to essential period products, delivering education, undertaking research and advocating for systemic change.
Period poverty affects people across Australia, with the cost of products, limited access and stigma creating barriers to health, dignity and participation. Their 2024 Bloody Big Survey, completed by more than 153,000 people, found 64% had struggled to afford period products, highlighting the scale of the issue. These barriers can be even greater for people experiencing homelessness, domestic and family violence or financial hardship, and for those living in rural, regional and remote communities.
Through their national network of volunteers, community supporters and more than 3,400 charity partners, Share the Dignity respond to both immediate need and the broader drivers of menstrual inequity. Since their inception, Share the Dignity have distributed millions of period products, more than 1.1 million It’s in the Bag donations, and established over 1,200 Dignity Vending Machines providing free period products in communities across Australia.
Share the Dignity’s current priorities include increasing access to essential products, strengthening support for remote and First Nations communities, expanding menstrual health education, investing in research and advocacy, and building the organisational capacity required to meet growing demand.
Funding enables Share the Dignity to deliver and expand these programs, reach underserved communities and strengthen the evidence, infrastructure and partnerships needed to create lasting progress towards menstrual equity in Australia.
