REFUGE

The world’s first refuge opened in Chiswick, West London in 1971. Since then Refuge has grown to become the country’s largest single provider of specialist support for women and children experiencing domestic abuse and other forms of gender-based violence.

In England and Wales, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. Refuge provides lifesaving and life changing specialist support to help women and children rebuild their lives free from fear and abuse. Their crucial services offer support for different types of abuse including economic and tech abuse, and have culturally specific services and independent advocacy services.

Refuge continues to drive change through their policy and advocacy work, to ensure that there is better protection and support available for women and children affected by domestic abuse across the country.

Together with the help of supporters, Refuge can keep their lifesaving services running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for women and children who need support.
