A2SV | Africa to Silicon Valley is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building Africa’s future tech ecosystem through three core pillars: high-level software engineering education, digital product incubation, and large-scale technology events. Our work focuses on developing top-tier engineering talent, building real-world digital solutions, and strengthening the networks that enable innovation across the continent.
1. Education: Developing Africa’s Next Generation of Engineers
A2SV’s education program is designed to take motivated young students and train them to become strong, industry-ready software engineers. Our curriculum emphasizes algorithms, data structures, clean code, communication, teamwork, and system design. Students work on real engineering projects, learning the habits and mindset required in leading global tech companies.
The instruction model is unique. Many A2SV alumni who now work at companies such as Google, Amazon, Bloomberg, LinkedIn, and Databricks return as educators. These alumni bring practical experience, keep standards high, and maintain a strong learning culture across all cohorts.
Since 2019, A2SV has trained over 1,200 students from 22 African countries. Many come from underserved backgrounds and would not otherwise have access to this level of training. Our graduates have earned over 120 opportunities at top tech companies, and placement rates exceed those of Africa’s leading universities.
2. Incubation: Building Digital Products for Africa
A2SV runs an incubator that supports digital product teams solving problems in health, education, finance, AI access, legal information, productivity, and talent opportunity. These teams are staffed by A2SV engineers and leaders who build and release impactful technology.
Notable products include:
• Adot: AI-supported maternal health and antenatal care platform helping mothers access guidance and safer care.
• AfroChat: an AI assistant built for Africa’s languages and local needs, providing real-time help in education, business, and daily life.
• Akil: an AI-powered platform connecting young people with learning and career opportunities.
• Dime: the easiest way to send money home, helping users transfer money quickly and affordably.
• Eskalate: an AI-enabled talent marketplace connecting African engineers with global companies and supporting transparent, skill-based hiring.
• RateEat: an AI-enhanced food discovery and restaurant insights platform for better dining decisions.
• SkillBridge: AI-supported learning and assessment tools for high school students, helping them strengthen understanding, prepare for exams, and improve academic performance.
These ventures give engineers real-world product experience while directly contributing to Africa’s digital transformation.
3. Events and Ecosystem Building
A2SV organizes the A2SV AI Hackathon, now Africa’s largest student technology competition. Held in 2023 and 2024, the event brought together nearly 5,000 participants from 48 African countries each year. The hackathon includes mentorship from industry engineers, investor engagement, workshops, and problem-solving challenges aligned with real needs.
These events connect young engineers, innovators, founders, and partners across Africa. They accelerate knowledge transfer, spark collaboration, and strengthen the relationships that make Africa’s tech ecosystem grow.
4. Why A2SV’s Model Works
A2SV focuses on the top of the talent pyramid. We train highly motivated students who become engineers, educators, founders, and leaders. They raise standards wherever they go and lift others with them. Many alumni return to teach, creating a self-sustaining cycle of excellence.
The model is cost-efficient. With roughly 4 million USD in total historical funding, A2SV has delivered a scale of impact that rivals much larger institutions.
5. Vision for the Future
A2SV is working to scale its education programs, strengthen its incubator, and expand events that support Africa’s tech ecosystem. We aim to train thousands more engineers, accelerate digital product development, and build a thriving pipeline of African technologists contributing to local and global innovation.
6. How Donors Help
Support from donors enables A2SV to provide life-changing education, build meaningful digital products, and expand opportunities for young Africans. Contributions directly strengthen training, incubation teams, events, and community outreach.
By supporting A2SV, donors help create opportunity, reduce inequality, and empower Africa’s next generation of innovators. Together, we can shape a stronger digital future for the continent.
