About this Cause:
The Internet Archive serves three million visitors each day and is one of the top 300 websites in the world. A single copy of the Internet Archive library collection occupies 200+ Petabytes of server space -- and we store at least 2 copies of everything.
In 1996, we began by archiving the Internet itself, a medium that was just beginning to grow in use. Today, we have 30 years of web history accessible through the Wayback Machine. As our web archive grew, so did our commitment to providing digital versions of other published works. Today, our archive contains:
1 trillion web pages
56 million books and texts
13 million audio recordings (including 280,000 live concerts)
15 million videos (including 3.3 million Television News programs)
5.3 million images
1.3 million software programs
Because we are a library, we pay special attention to books. We began a program to digitize books in 2005, and today we scan 3,700 books per day in 22 locations around the world. Books published in or before 1930 are available for download, and hundreds of thousands of modern books can be borrowed through our Open Library site. Most of our digitized books are available to people with print disabilities.
Your support will keep our servers running and ensure that our resources remain free and accessible to all. Thank you for generously supporting the Internet Archive through Benevity.
Gratefully,
The Internet Archive Team
