Root the Wild Project in the East Village

Root Us in the LES, is a capital campaign wild project launched in March 2022 to acquire the building on E. 3rd St. in the East Village which is home to their 89-seat theater, gallery, and the home base for the artists and resident theater companies we serve. It’s a campaign to forever lay the foundation for the next generation of artists. They're inspired by New York’s past, it’s standing in history as a cultural beacon and incubator. Through the changes, turmoil and resiliency in our city, the Covid-19 shutdown, and the ongoing process of recovery, their mission to serve LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC artists of New York City remains. This campaign will ensure that their commitment to New York’s artists remains for many years to come.

Since 2007, wild project has presented and produced theater that enriches, educates, and unifies its East Village community in an environmentally responsible green space. They consistently uplift and amplify underrepresented voices and emerging artists in one of the few certified-green off-off-broadway theater spaces in NYC. This investment in their space includes the air space above the building as well, presenting the opportunity to expand the building and their programming into a full service multi-arts space. 

As someone who started their career in independent theater, I can speak to the need for this space, not only to create art but to find community. It was critical to my early years in New York City, and the community I (along with many many others) found there I still speak to, work with, and create with today.
