Established in 2005, the Nanubhai Education Foundation (NEF, a registered 501c3) was named after Mr. Nanubhai Naik, who was the former principal of a small village high school in Kadod, Gujarat, India. Under the leadership and vision of Principal Naik, hundreds of local students went on to pursue higher education both within India and abroad, including the father of NEF's founder, who settled in Georgia after completing medical school. This unprecedented wave of achievement changed the quality of life in Kadod and other nearby villages.
Raj Shah, NEF's founder, saw the impact of education first hand on his visits to India growing up, and it was the story of how Principal Naik's influence impacted not only his father's life, but his own life as well, that inspired Mr. Shah to found NEF in order to give back.
In 2014, we launched a small, newly-reworked scholarship program for 12 young women in southern Gujarat. Today, we fund over 600 active scholarships in 10 districts and across 3 states (Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh). Our scholarships (more than 1,000 to date), support rural young women as they train to become doctors, nurses, engineers, IT professionals, teachers, dentists, and veterinarians.
Nanubhai scholarships don't just cover school fees, they help to cover up to 90% of all costs associated with attendance, and are renewable for the full duration of a Scholar's program.
As an organization, we're ready to grow. We want to support more Scholars, and provide comprehensive services to help these young women improve the quality of not just their lives, but the lives of their families as well. Our near-future plans include establishing study material libraries for Scholars who delay attendance for a year to study for NEET (medical program) and JEE (engineering program) entrance exams, implementing pre-12th programming to help students become competitive for college programs, and offering job preparedness seminars to boost Scholars' opportunities for employment post-graduation.
We invite you to join us in strengthening India's future, one Scholar at a time.
