Launched in 2014, the Nanubhai Scholars program is a college scholarship program dedicated to enabling rural girls from financially vulnerable communities to attend college.
2015 marked Nanubhai's first project year in Rajasthan, resulting in 4 one-time scholarship prize winners from the district of Dungarpur.
2016 will be the first year of full scholarship awards with a target of 10 full scholarships in Dungarpur and Udaipur districts. 2017 see an expansion to three districts and a larger class of Scholars.
Each Scholarship is worth up to Rs30,000 per year and is renewable for each year of a Scholar's program. Funds can be used to pay for all aspects of attendance from tuition to books, room and board, transportation, tutoring and exam fees.
Scholars are identified through a rigorous 3 round process designed to identify girls who have both merit and need. The process is competitive and less than 10% of applicants are selected each year.
Preference is shown to girls who plan to study in math, science, medical or business fields although we have selected future teachers, professors, social workers, a future policewoman and a future nonprofit Executive Director in other regions.
New Scholarship recipients (approximately 30-35 each year starting in 2017) are selected in June of each year and are publicly announced in July.
