Any time a crisis hits, children are the most vulnerable. They need urgent support to survive and be protected.
In 2023 the first earthquake struck near the town of Gaziantep, Turkey, located about 50 miles north of the Syrian border. It may be the strongest to hit Turkey since 1939. The earthquake has now left over 44,000 people dead and many more injured across the regions of Turkey and Syria, with numbers expected to rise.
These figures are likely to increase as first responders continue to search through the rubble of homes and buildings. 17 million people in the affected area including children are in urgent need of shelter, food, psychological support and medical aid.
As always, we need you.
Immediate priorities now for the two countries in crisis are search and rescue, medical treatment for the injured, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heaters for spaces, winter kits with blankets, warm clothes, ensuring people have food and access to clean water.
If we want more children to survive this crisis we need to jointly act together now.
